I wouldn't hesitate to call the dowitcher a Long-billed Dowitcher.
The overall dark back with prominently white-tipped scapulars is a Long-billed Dowitcher thing (although the tips will wear off quickly...don't look for them in fall). Short-billed will rarely show such prominent white-tips, and even then still shouldn't have a dark-backed appearance.
