Good afternoon birders!
I went out on the DuPuis Management Area property ( A SFWMD property located two miles east of Lake Okeechobee on Kanner Highway in Martin County ). Here is what I saw:
Red-Headed Woodpecker
Red-Cockaded Woodpecker
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Great Crested Flycatcher
Eastern Bluebird
Brown Thrasher
Carolina wren (calling)
Northern Mockingbird
Blue Jay
Bald Eagle
Wild Turkey
Bachman's Sparrow
Red-Shouldered Hawk
Swallow-tailed Kite
Boat-tailed Grackle
Green Heron
Little Blue Heron
Tricolored Heron
Cattle Egret
Anhinga
Just took a walk on the Habitat Trail outside of the office here at the Gate 5 Visitors' Center and saw:
2 Barred Owls
Gray Catbird
Chimney Swifts (which are making a nest in our chimney in the office here)
American Redstart (our only migrant for the week... last week we had a Cape-May warbler, Black-Throated Blue, Blue-Headed Vireo, Prairie Warbler and other usual suspects but not much in terms of migrants so far this season...)
Oh, and I saw a Crested Caracara on the way in to work on Beeline Highway near Indiantown.
Not too bad of a day :)
