Okay Alex, let's see if we can oblige "two-birds" with one stone.
At Hoechoka hammock we found our Pineland privet loaded with berries and to our delight the mockingbird was beating off a brown thrasher, as well as a male cardinal. The thrasher has three babies. The privet is in the pine-tree area just to the left as you enter the hammock. (Forget fruit Alex, go with privet)
Also, we are delighted that TAS members are enjoying the screech owl by the nest box. Remember..always at dusk 7:45-8:30 and watch the silhouettes of the trees against the sky.
Killdeer have three babies and are running in the grass field south of the new school site. Watch how they beat off the fish raven...devoted parents. The grass field is northwest of the hammock proper, an easy stroll. Don't approach too close as they stress easily and need to watch for aerial predators.
