Long-eared Owl and Black-capped Petrel

Those two birds were some of the highlights of the last nine days at the Dry Tortugas. The Long-eared Owl was seen on April 17th but not the following day or trip after. This amazing sighting is the second record for the Dry Tortugas and I believe the third for the state.

Black-capped Petrel was seen on two different trips to the Dry Tortugas. One trip had two birds, the other with one bird seen. This is the first time in 18-years of going to the Dry Tortugas that I have seen a Black-capped Petrel. The birds were seen in about 250-300 foot of water about 15-miles from Fort Jefferson.
