Here are three images of the Red-footed Booby that I found on April 9. After 21-days at the Dry Tortugas I am recovering from my time away from home. It was another great year with many species of birds seen. I may post a total list of species later as I get more rested.

During my time there I saw the Red-footed Booby in my images below on every single visit, as well as a different bird seen on one day of one trip (I ran 7 of these an eighth trip was run by Murray Gardler). The other Red-footed Booby seen (at least by me and some of my group) was a uniform brown immature dark morph bird. There were reports by other birders of up to 3-Red-footed Boobies the day before we saw the brown morph bird; I believe the date was April 23. Three birders who camped saw two birds on April 23 from shore using a scope. On my arrival on April 24 we waited until late in the day to take the skiff over to the Magnificent Frigatebird colony in search of the Red-footed Booby. On my third skiff run sharp-eyed birder Dana Griffin spotted the second Red-footed Booby, which was the brown morph bird. Also seen at that time, a mostly mature Brown Booby and an immature Brown Booby for a total of 4-boobies.

I looked on every trip after the sighting of the 2-Red-footed Boobies but never again saw more than one bird. Perhaps the second bird comes to roost after dark, which is entirely possible. The time that we did see the brown morph bird it was very late in the day with the light fading fast.

The images of the bird below are of a bird in heavy molt, it may be an intermediate morph bird. Notice the dark underside of the wings as well as a pinkish bill and a bluish area around the eye as well as the orange feet and legs of an immature bird. These images were taken with a 500 mm lens and a 2X extender sitting on a tripod on a moving 14 ft. skiff. I had to use 400 slide film and 200 slide film to get any kind of decent pictures.
