After spending 4 hours at Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale with 4 Warblers and no Flycatcher, but two Spot-breasted Orioles we decided to check the area north of the Alligator farm.
Between 6:00 and 6:45 PM just of the storm cell we expierienced fallout conditions. Carefully estimated we had more than 200 to 300 Warbler. This all within an area of 200ft.
They were high in the trees in heavy foliage and on the move. This is what we identified:
Cape May (male and female) > 20
American Redstart (male and female) > 10
Northern Parula > 10
Prairie
Worm-eating
Blackpoll
Northern Waterthrush
Black-and-White
Palm
Black-throated Blue
Black-throated Green
This is the most Cape May's we have seen in one spot. It's also the most Warblers seen in one spot since Magee Marsh in May 2009.
We were wondering what we had missed because we didn't know where to look first.
The same area this morning produced: nothing!
Toe, I guess migration did take place within 45 minutes.
Reinhard
