Warblers were fairly scarce on today's TAS walk at Matheson Hammock. We ended up with five species: Parula (heard only), Cape May, Black-throated Blue, Blackpoll, and Black-and-white. (Bill Boeringer had found a N. Waterthrush prior to the walk).
We did better on parrots, with 6 species: Monk Parakeet (flock), Mitred Parakeet (3), Yellow-chevroned Parakeet (flock), Scaly-headed Parrot (3), White-fronted Parrot (2), and Orange-winged Parrot (2). The Scaly-headed Parrots left us puzzled. We initially called them Mealy (and I called the same birds Mealy two weeks ago). However, after we studied them a bit we started to have doubts. The striking red undertail coverts didn't seem right, nor did the grayish collar. I suggested they might be Pionus of some sort, and a look at the books turned up Scaly-headed Parrot (Pionus maximiliani).
We also found White-crowned Pigeon (seen by some), Hill Myna, Chimney Swift, and Purple Martin.
