Go anywhere in the world and hire a bird guide, and chances are at some point you will use a tape to draw in a bird. There are some birds that your only chance of getting a good look at will require some form of sound enticement. Where and how this is done is up to the ethics and common sense of the birder. This is coming from someone that does not own a tape player, ipod, or any other electronic or mechanical sound emmitting device.

If you want to complain, then maybe a better target should be the unecessary collecting of birds that are already documented, well-known, and completely identified, by "scientists" to take back to THEIR universities to play the lumping vs splitting game. This happens a lot in the tropics, and you wonder if we are still living back in the days when everyone was trying to be the one to collect the last Ivory-billed Woodpecker or Backman's Warbler (47 Bachman's were collected in one season in the Keys).

Or better yet, we should all protest the thousands of birds that are killed as bycatch by longliners and netters. Point is, a tape here and there in Key Largo, where it's permitted to a degree, is a very small threat to birds at the moment.
