Even though my house is closed due to air conditioning, today is the first day I can hear the buntings singing outside almost continually. If I step outside they are singing too! This must be their signal they are about ready to leave for their breeding grounds. The male immature is noticably brighter being more red underneath than orange. My bronzed Cowbird has been displaying in his usual dramatic way. He is a sight to behold! He found a female and hovered two feet above the ground to impress her. She stared, turned and flew away. He was standing in the middle of the road and only narrowly escaped being run over by a car! Next thing I know he is at my car mirror raising his neck feathers and admiring the "bird in the mirror". What a show!
