An example: This past Tuesday a not-very-cold cold front swept across the Gulf quickly from the NW. The rains and winds arrived in Pinellas County by 2-3 AM. It brough with it no migrants.
My guess is that the birds that had left the Yucatan the evening before were still not even half way up the Gulf when the front passed. In other words, the migrants slipped in behind the leading edge of the front and were carried north on strong south winds that were a few hours behind the leading edge of the front.
So, this next not-so-very-cold cold front, which is expected to sweep across the Gulf this Thursday, needs to arrive in Pinellas at dawn or a little later.
And by the way, we would like another one of your Bahama Mockingbirds or Bananquits up this way please...
