I really wanted to find a MACU to photograph, so I started real early in North Key Largo. I know how hard it is to find these, so I took my old tape player and super-sized speakers so the call would play really really loud. I started at Dagny Johnson ~8:00 and after only 15 minutes of continously playing the call, I immediately got a Cuckoo to show up and start calling back! Within minutes, there were at least 3!!
I then decided to try and see just how many of these there are along that stretch of Card South Rd, so I set up the speaker out the window and drove along the road, real slow, playing the tape really, really loud. Occasionally I would stop. I must have seen/heard another 10-12 Cuckoos just between Dagny Johnson and the blinking light!
Next, I'm thinking of getting even bigger speakers and taking my system to other areas, like Bear Lake or even Elliot Key.
