A Whimbrel called and flew about a small interior lagoon just South of Elliot Key. This is only the second time I've seen a Whimbrel in Biscayne Natl. Park. Two years ago in May three were on a Matheson Hammock flat. The campground on Elliot had a decent smattering of songbirds; one berry-laden tree held numerous Indigo Buntings, 2 male Painted Buntings, 6-7 Cape May warblers, a lone Blackpoll, 2 Grey Kingbirds, and several White-Crowned Pigeons. Nearby were Ovenbird, Parula, Prairie, Palm, White-Eyed Vireo, and Savannah Sparrow. A Chucks was heard calling just outside the park entrance.
