Everglades

I spent the day in Everglades on Saturday. There was a feeding frenzy going on at Mrazek Pond with numerous egrets, herons, storks, and spoonbills. A lone pair of Blue-winged Teal remained.

Eco Pond had a similar feeding event underway, with the addition of Black-necked Stilt and both yellowlegs species. The water here is receding fast and won't last much longer.

Along the trail to Bear Lake I found moderate mosquito levels and an Ovenbird and Hermit Thrush. More than a dozen singing Prairie Warblers kept me company. The only other warblers I found were two Common Yellowthroat and a single Northern Parula.

Around Flamingo I found a few Painted Bunting, several American Kestrel, Pileated Woodpecker, very vocal Great-crested Flycatchers, a small flock of American White Pelican, Swallow-tailed Kite, and a single male Shiny Cowbird with the Brown-headed Cowbird flock that frequents the parking areas.

It was a fun day to be exploring even if migration seemed to be minimal.
