This morning Trey and I did a quick walk out to a spot on 296 St. east of 107 Ave where I saw one Clapper Rail and heard 2 others a few months ago. We were there at first light and spent about an hour, but never found any. However, we had a Possible RED-TAILED HAWK on one of the Australian Pines to the north. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK perched silently to our south. A group of DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS flying south was a treat. Many COMMON YELLOWTHROATS called from either side of the road, with a couple of them singing. We also heard at least two singing WHITE-EYED VIREOS. Our best bird was a DOWNY WOODPECKER that came really close while tapping on the nearby dead pines, but the two EUROPEAN STARLINGS nearby were also a treat. We also had OSPREY, NORTHERN CARDINALS, both male and female ANHINGA, and lots of GRAY CATBIRDS!

On our way back along 107 Ave we added GLOSSY IBIS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, GREAT BLUE HERON, GREAT EGRET, TRI-COLORED HERON, and PIED-BILLED GREBE.

Birding rocks!
