Few migrants were up this way (Ft. Pickens, Escambia County) yesterday. Soras, Eastern Kingbird, Barn and Northern Rough-winged Swallows, and a few lingering warblers and sparrows.
I have not been in Miami for a migration since the spring of 2007, so I can't comment on what has or hasn't been seen down there. I think it would be interesting to hear of any detailed notes from the '90s regarding migration.
If this is not so much subjective observation of a few birders or a product of a change in wind direction trends, it would be worth recording daily numbers and day by day weather conditions.
Most passerine species are declining, but the jump from 2001-2006 to 2007 and onwards is just simply to drastic to suggest a massive die off that went under the scientific radar.
This said, personal notes shared amongst the community over several years is likely the best way to figure out what is going on here. You could be onto something here Toe, we just need substance.

*Completely unrelated, I submitted a trip report to surfbirds.com detailing a trip to Texas that Carlos Sanchez and I made just last week. For those interested, here is the link: http://www.surfbirds.com/trip_report.php?id=1958
