I saw two different Selasphorus Hummers today at Mary Krome Park in
Homestead. I have seen adult male Rufous Hummingbirds here in the
past. One of the birds looks to be a female and the other perhaps a
young male. This park has had Selasphorus Hummingbirds for many, many
years each winter. There are also at least 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
here also.
The park is located on the north end of Homestead on Krome ave and s.w.
296 st. Go to page 232 in the Pranty guide for other directions.
I forgot to post this on Saturday, my wife and I had 5 Western
Kingbirds, 3 Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and one very late Eastern
Kingbird. Perhaps the Eastern Kingbird will winter. This area is
located on s.w. 392 st. and s.w. 212 ave. 392 st. is the street that
goes into Everglades National Park. Make a right turn from s.w. 392 st.
onto s.w. 212 ave. Look on the phone wires and fence post. Drive any
other streets here also. These birds are best seen early in the morning
or late in the day.
