As you can see, I'm catching up on posts for a couple of days... On Sunday late-afternoon, Alison and I went on a de facto exotics/invasives trip. We started out at the La Carreta Restaurant on Bird Rd & SW 87th Ave, where Toe tipped us off to a group of Bronzed Cowbirds. There were roughly 15-20 cowbirds posturing and feeding in the parking lot. Not to be outdone, 4 Common Myna showed up, as did a Eurasian Collared Dove, House Sparrows, and some Rock Pigeons.

Next, we went to the Baptist Hospital area. We started in the Kendall Point neighborhood, where we spotted 2 Red-whiskered Bulbuls feeding in a tree near an apartment complex. (From SW 82 Ave., we turned right onto SW 86th St. The Bulbuls were in the parking lot on the north side of the road, after passing a tennis court.) We watched them for less than a minute before they flew west. We couldn't follow them because of the fences between the various developments/apartments. We drove the neighborhood for another 20 minutes hoping to relocate them, but didn't have any luck. A flyover by a White-winged Dove gave us yet another introduced species.

The ponds at Baptist Hospital had the usual array of waterfowl (Egyptian Goose, Domestic Muscovy, Barnyard Goose, Domestic Mallard, Chinese Swan Goose) and 20-30 Mitred Parakeets. Our last stop for the day was at Matheson Hammock, which was completely dead (it was late). We hoped to see Hill Mynas, but Grackles and Turkey Vultures were the only things around, other than the ubiquitous squirrels. On the way back to US-1, chanced upon a large flock of Peafowl in the Snapper Creek community.

Interesting birding :)

Anil
