Approximately 20 birders joined me at the start of today's birdwalk at Matheson Hammock. Both David Simpson (who is mostly recovered from his burns) and Kevin Sarfield put in an appearance during the walk. It ended up being a good day, with nearly 50 species.

Included in the total were 11 species of warbler: Parula, Cape May, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Prairie, Palm, Black-and-white, Redstart, Worm-eating, Ovenbird, and Common Yellowthroat. We found both Summer and Scarlet Tanager, Orchard Oriole, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo. A Swallow-tailed Kite was seen by some of the group, as were a pair of Painted Buntings. Other raptors included 2 each Broad-winged Hawks and Red-shouldered Hawks.

Exotics seen included Orange-winged (1), White-fronted (1), and Mealy (3) Parrots, Yellow-chevroned Parakeet, and Hill Myna.

Chimney Swifts were flying overhead when we returned to the parking lot.
