I started out my Birdathon today with a staked out Spot-breasted Oriole at exactly 5:30. It flew away at 5:31. I quickly got White-winged Parakeet and White-winged Dove at around 5:40. I reached Barry University at 6:06 and got Burrowing Owl. At about 6:30, after fighting traffic, I found a couple Monk, White-eyed and Red-masked Parakeet at the parakeet roost in North Miami (thanks to Nancy Freedman for finding the site!), along with more White-winged Doves. At 6:45, I was back at my home in Biscayne Park, and found Purple Martin, Hill Myna, Chestnut-fronted Macaws and a pair of White-winged Parakeets. At 6:55, I quickly found a staked out Common Myna at the Walgreens on Biscayne Boulevard and 90th street. I was back at my old neighborhood of Morningside Park and found Yellow-crowned Night-heron. I went by my old house and found another Spot-breasted Oriole. At 8;25 I returned to Barry University to see the owls again, which were calling from a tree, and bobbing their heads. I discovered that I had found all my target birds seen between 5:30 and 6:30 atleast 2 more times after 6:30, so I officially started my Birdathon at 6:30, since there is no point in starting at 5:30 if I had the same birds an hour later. This means I have an extra hour to bird tomorrow without my time running out.
