Most of us gathered at the boat launch at 7:00 am for the dawn fly-out but little flew out where we waited. There was a stream of several hundred birds much further to our south but just dribs and drabs for us. Oh well, it was worth the try.
While there have been fewer and fewer numbers of birds recently, the variety still remains: 6 varieties of Warblers (Palm, Prairie, Pine, Northern Parula, Common Yellowthroat, and Yellow-rumped -- I mean Myrtle); 3 varieties of Woodpeckers (Red-bellied, Yellow-bellied, and Pileated); 3 varieties of Wren (Carolina, House, and Swamp); and 2 varieties of Owl (Eastern Screech [Rufous morph] and Great Horned).
Recently absent were Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Osprey, and Blue-winged Teal but there were increasing numbers of Purple Gallinule.
The highlight of the day was the Sora. While there are dozens at nearby Wakodahatchee and Green Cay, we have not recorded at single Sora at Loxahatchee for probably 10 years!
Today's photo is a Blue-headed Vireo who posed only briefly.
