Long day birding with my guest Peggy Eubank in Miami-Dade. C.Myna on way to 1st stop (all visiting birders need their Mynas) Started in C-357 Sparrow Fields and got two Dickcissels and Grasshopper sparrows (no Clay-colored). Chekika yield a dark morph Short-tailed Hawk (no WT Kite). Cutler Wetlands were the usuals but had a nice "almost" adult Bald Eagle. Dump Marsh didn't hold anything different and Mt Trashmore offered NO GULLS. On to the Everglades with lunch at Long Pine Key listening to BH Nuthatches and Bluebirds. Mahogany Hammock yielded great looks at two Barred Owls but no WC Pigeons. Paurotis Pond had over 100 Wood Storks and a few R.Spoonbills. Missed Shovelers at Westlake (others had them today) but the Swallow-tailed Kites were great. Mrazek offered a BC Night-heron and the teals. Flamingo highlights were Reddish Egret, 3 Lesser Black-backs, skimmers, Royal & Caspian Terns, and a few shorebirds but no White Pelicans. Eco Pond had BN Stilts. Back to Mahogany Hammock for sunset in hopes to see the WC Pigeons come to roost - NOT but the Barred Owls entertained us again. A quick walk on Anhinga Trail at 8:30pm which was very quiet except for the "NPS tour". Coe Visitor Center had two Chucks calling at 9:15pm. Aerojet Rd didn't yeild anything tonight plus gate prevented us from cruising the Annex. Long winded tonight, sorry and Good night.
