This morning, after over an hour of waiting, the Virginia Rail at Green Cay was a no-show. The feeders at Okaheelee had Indigo and Painted Buntings, all quite cooperative after water was put into the birdbath. Amazingly, the scene went from zero birds before the ranger put water out to several males and females, and a Dickcissel within one minute of the water appearing!
I stopped at the new Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Wetland in Wellington, on Flying Cow Road. It still is raw, with mostly cattails, open water and newly planted native trees on the shores. It's going to look like Viera with no cars after a while. Not too many birds, unless you like Limpkins. Plenty of them and plenty of those Big Mac-sized snails.
