As Toe alluded to, the bird is very much the skulker you would expect it to be. It hangs low in the tangles, however, it did come out in the open to feed on the vines a couple times. The chip note is key to locating this bird, it sounds like a toned down Waterthrush.
There were a ton of other birds in the area which I probably didn't give proper attention to. Other highlights included a BELL'S VIREO which popped up briefly in the same general area as the warbler and a very vocal BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER on the other side of the canal.
Additionally I saw the following wintering/migrants:
Both Painted (numerous) and Indigo Bunting
Several N. Parula
Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrow
Common Yellowthroat
Black-and-white Warbler
Palm Warbler (numerous)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (numerous)
Blue-headed Vireo
Gray Catbird (numerous)
E. Phoebe
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Short-tailed Hawk
N. Harrier
