While on a bicycle ride south from the C-357 sparrow fields along the Everglades Trail I found a probable Tropical Kingbird at the pumping station about five miles south of Richmond Drive. The bird had a clearly notched tail which I first discounted because when the bird was in flight with its tail spread a gap appeared near the center indicating that it was molting tail feathers. What finally convinced me was the size of its bill, the brightness and extent of the yellow on the belly and breast which extended to just below the throat, and a distinct greenish tint on the back. The bird never vocalized so I cannot totally rule out Couch s Kingbird. The only other interesting birds seen on the ride were two White-tailed Kites seen flying west of the trail about a mile north of the Homestead Airport.
