We started with good views of both Yellow-throated and Blue-headed Vireos in the parking lot (and a while later, when looping back through to search for the Great Horned Owl, a gorgeous Prairie Warbler). Green-winged Teals were interspersed in with the Blue-winged with a few Mottled thrown in. Snowies and Greenies were both absent (though in full, breeding abundance over at Wakodahatchee). We had one lone Lesser Yellowlegs and a brief glimpse of a Wilson's Snipe.

The Limpkin family is still present and the chick with the broken bill is doing fine -- so far. We think that the parents are still feeding it and time will tell what happens when they stop. The chicks have lost all their fuzz and now look like miniature adults.

The Great Horned Owl, though hiding in the Spanish Moss, was found by Larry the owl man. He's amazing. The Red-shouldered Hawks aren't nesting yet. What's up with them?

There are wild flowers blooming everywhere (more photos at the link below) as well as itty-bitty Lubber Grasshoppers.

The highlight of the day was the Snail Kites -- one male and one female -- perching, soaring, hovering, and capturing Apple Snails. They were close enough for good views and I got a few photos.

A NOTE TO ANYONE PLANNING ON COMING NEXT WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH:

The change to Daylight Savings Time pushes the flyout back an hour so we are planning to meet at the boat launch parking lot (at the end of Lee Road) at 7:00 AM to catch it before proceeding with the normal walk.
