Sonny Bass and I are on the Dry Tortugas, working on the sooty terns and so have access to Bush Key.

We followed up on this sighting the same afternoon.

Sonny and I independently thought the bird to be an Iceland Gull. I thought it was the same size as the Herrings, Sonny a little larger. The primaries were the same colour as the mantle (rather than darker). Alas, we were not able to photograph the bird that day.

I had a different work schedule to Sonny and spent 1.5 hours looking for the bird yesterday both in the am and pm this time with my camera. I had no luck either time. Sonny is on Bush Key now and we'll be back there this afternoon. Yes, we do understand the pressing need to get better photographs of this bird.

But, yes, we are both familiar with faded Herrings.
