Just a reminder that the walk to the C-395 Sparrow Fields and Chekika Unit of Everglades National Park will be tomorrow.
We will be meeting first at the C-395 Sparrow Fields at 700AM. Directions to the site are: take the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836) to the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826) or the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike. Exit the Palmetto or the Turnpike at Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street), and go west to Krome Avenue (SW 177th Avenue). Turn left and go south about five miles to SW 168th Street. Turn right and go west to the canal with the large tower (just past 205th Avenue which will be on your right). The parking area will be immediately after the canal, on your left.
Species that have been seen recently in these locations include White-tailed Kite, Clay-colored Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, and Dickcissel. Florida specialties include Painted Bunting and Short-tailed Hawk.
