Todd and Ellen asked that I post a report for our trip this past Saturday. Ironically, it was this very same trip with the very same leaders that introduced me to biring almost 5 years ago and now I'm posting on their behalf. How time flies. Anyway, the bird(s) of the day were Prairie Warblers - everywhere! We had a total of nine warbler species; again, mostly Prairies, some nice male Redstarts (I know, I know), a couple Black & Whites, smattering of Palms, one BT Blue (which I didn't see unfortunately), Parulas in the Lighthouse area, a Common Yellowthroat and one Louisiana Waterthrush along the paved road along with a Yellow-throated warbler. We scared up two Chuck-will's-Widows; one in the lighthouse area and another on the dirt path. There were at least 7 Merlins, probably more, on the dead snags near the Lighthouse, keeping that area very quiet. And a Frigate to top it off.
