We had 28 birders in the group this Wednesday morning. After views of a male Painted Bunting we began by checking the ducks in the first impoundment (both Blue- and Green-winged Teals along with assorted American Coots, Common Moorhens, and Purple Gallinules) and then the area near and around the pavilion where we continue to get a good variety of warblers and vireos.

Then we were off to find the Great Horned Owl, the Limpkin family, and the Red-shouldered Hawk nest. We were successful with the owl but struck out on both the Limpkin family (though there were lots of limpkins around) and, while the Red-shoulders were present, they have not set up shop in last year's nest. Either they just haven't gotten around to it yet or they are planning on a new location this year.

Today's photo is of a cooperative Gulf Fritillary.
