After visiting Kendall Indian Hammock Park this morning, where I viewed the Ash-throated Flycatcher with John Boyd and Audrey Whitlock, I decided to try for the La Sagra's Flycatcher at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. On the way, I drove through the neighborhood north of Baptist Hospital, where I found a Red-whiskered Bulbul on power lines between SW 86 and SW 85 Street, just east of SW 88 Avenue. I also saw two Blue-and-yellow Macaws fly over the highway as I drove east on the Snapper Creek Expressway.

As I walked down the nature trail at Baggs, I chanced upon the La Sagra's, which was consuming a cicada in a Ficus tree on the east side of the trail. I believe this is the same tree where a Western Spindalis was seen last year. It's about 0.2 miles south of the nature trail entrance near the No Name Harbor parking area, or if coming from the opposite direction, it's about 0.1 mile north of the trail intersection with the white gate. After viewing the bird for about 15 minutes and taking a couple of awful photos, I saw two birders approaching the area, so I waved them towards me. At that point, the La Sagra's called once, then apparently flew off. One of the birders was Tedor Whitman, the Director of Education for the Zoological Society of Florida; the other was a friend of his from Pennsylvania. After trying to relocate the bird for a few minutes, I decided to continue south along the nature trail to see if other birders were around, but found none. I walked to the area where Robin Diaz reported a Bell's Vireo last week, but was unable to relocate that bird. When I returned to the La Sagra's spot, Tedor and his friend were gone, so I'm unsure if they relocated the bird.
