Eleven birders joined me for today's TAS trip to Stormwater Treatment Area 5 in Hendry County, where we assisted with this weekend's Great Backyard Bird Count. Other stops included Sawgrass Recreation Area on US 27 in Broward County, STA 3/4 on Holeyland Road in Palm Beach County and the Sem Chi rice plant, adjacent to STA 1W on CR 880 in Palm Beach County. It was a day of many highlights, among them:
Bobcat, on CR 827, west of US 27 in Palm Beach County
White-tailed Kite, along Blumberg Road in Hendry County
Canada Goose, 200+ Fulvous Whistling-Ducks and 10 Canvasback among 12 waterfowl species at STA-5
Over 100 Limpkins at STA-5
Cassin's Kingbird, at STA-5
At least 6 Yellow-headed Blackbirds, plus Bronzed Cowbird at Sem Chi rice plant.
