Thirty one knowledgeable birders and photographers joined the group this week for a day that started out quite cool but quickly turned quite beautiful.

We began with a pair of White-winged Doves in the parking lot (rare for this location) but the leaf blowers behind the Visitors Center scared away anything that might otherwise have been there so we skipped that location and moved on to the Butterfly Triangle where a mama gator and her babies are cordoned off (to protect both them and us). Robins were feasting on Elderberries (and were probably totally drunk later in the day) and a pair of Wood Ducks flew overhead.

Kinglets, Gnatcatchers, Vireos, and Warblers were present in pretty decent numbers in the Live Oaks near and across the road from the Pavilion (as they have been for a few weeks now).

We wandered back to the parking lot to get scopes and walk the Marsh Trail. At the second cross-levy we found the Limpkin family -- both parents and babies -- that had been sighted recently. (There are lots of Limpkins around now -- four were perched in the tree tops in this general area.)

On the way back to the parking lot we got our FOS male Indigo Bunting as well as an immature male Painted Bunting.
