Well, since they refuse to come to me, I made the trek up to Immokalee this morning "on the way to work" to see the Pine Siskins that Vince posted about. I arrived at 7:45 and saw hordes of Indigo and Painted Buntings at the feeders along with a couple of Chipping Sparrows. I could here Goldfinches and Pine Siskins in the pine trees overhead, but they weren't coming down to the feeders. After a short wait, one of the owners, Reina, came outside and told me to leave. Just kidding. She was very pleasant, and was as excited about the siskins as I was. She told me that they usually don't come down to the feeders too early, and that we had a few minutes to wait. At around 8:15, the flock of siskins started working their way down towards the feeders and soon there were 10! I got to see as many as 8 on one feeder.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with why we don't get them here, but the habitat looks more like what you'd see in northern Florida, and while the temperature in Miami when I left at 5:30 was 63 degrees, in Immokalee just 50 miles farther north in latitude it was 49 degrees at 7:30. Northern birds my friends, northern birds.
