Hmm, not sure about your first question, but it sounds like you saw some sort of macaw at the golf course, or at least that would be my best guess. If you plug in "macaw" or "macaw identification" into google, you will probably get some luck in finding a site with decent images, I believe I tried one of those and it helped me to ID a chestnut-fronted macaw I observed.
