Mr. & Mrs. Curtis,
Sure, I would be glad to tell you how to get to the University. You might want to check out their website, I believe it is either www.barry.edu or www.bu.edu, there would probably be a map on how to get there. Their address is 11300 NE 2 Ave, Miami Shores, FL 33161. You might try plugging that address into mapquest or some similar mapping program. Otherwise you can exit off of i95 onto 119th street, which is either exit #11 or 12, I'm not sure, head east at the light, and make a right onto North Miami Ave. After a block or so, you will see the University, it is small, with only only two buildings taller than 2 stories, and the main campus is fenced in black metal fencing. You want to try to get parking within the fencing since the best bird watching is on the main campus. I'm not sure if the shavingbrush tree (favorite parrot/parakeet food) will still be flowering around the time you are coming, but we get parrots in the various palms and in a few sea grape trees on campus. The campus is usually quiet enough so you can follow your ears, but most of the species are amazingly silent, so be sure to check out the sea grape trees and the shaving brush trees, and always keep an eye on the royal palm trees (the really tall ones). Don't forget to check out the spot-breasted orioles too, they are only found in this area of the US, otherwise they are native to Central America, you can see a pair on campus if you are observant enough! Good luck&happy birding, I hope this is helpful to you!
