I am back in cold Minnesota after a week in Florida. We were able to get out most days last week, finding a total or 88 species. Tried unsuccessfully twice to find the White-cheeked Pintail, but was able to find the La Sagra's Flycatcher at Bill Baggs on Friday (1/21) morning just east of the rest rooms off the bike trail. We then went down to the Everglades, out to the
Anhinga Trail, missing the Ani, which was seen while we were there. We did hear White-winged Doves calling north of the parking lot. We also found a Clay-colored Sparrow outside the Everglades by the bridge. Nearby we had an un-ID'd small, chunky buteo. It was white in front with slight flecking on chest. Head was white with some dark flecking, esp. on neck. Bill was small and dark, contrasting with face. Back was dark. Tail was white with indistinct thin wavy barring.
