This morning I had a total of 6 Indigo Buntings at my feeder at one time. I have usually one or two females show up with the regular Painted Buntings in the past, but today was a treat to see so many Indigos. Maybe the warmer south winds are moving them up. Half of the birds were females and the others looked to be 1st year males with the blue on the breast just beginning to appear in patches. I'll make it an effort to keep my feeders full so they stay around. I'd like them to stay long enough to observe the males in breeding plumage, but if it gets any warmer, they'll probably be gone.
