How exciting to have struck such a debate with my little REVI. For all or any interested parties, I was climbing a tree to look at an orchid flower, when, high up in my perch I first heard what I knew to be vireo, and then saw only a few branches away, the red-eyed vireo. So... perhaps you should try climbing trees. In this particular patch of cypress and buttonwood and other, I would not have seen the REVI from the ground. And he only vocalized a bit the once, then quietly traveled around the canopy.

I would also like to add that I, though new to the "birding world" I am not new to birds, have a great respect for the long-time birders and if they are or are not ornithologists, I as a scientist have a respect for the people who act as scientists even if they are without the title. So in a case where I am not sure, I absolutely defer to the more familiar birder. And in this case it is very true, Turner River is new territory for me, but REVIs are not a new bird for me :-)
