You should have been looking for Nelson's Sparrow on the Coastal Prairie Trail, not Seaside. A good place to look for Seaside Sparrow (of the Cape Sable race) is the stretch of the main park road about 1/2 to 1 mile south of the Mahogany Hammock turnoff. You best chance is to go when the birds start singing, usually in February or March. Early morning is best.
