The great blue Heron fledglings are about to take off from nest one and two. Nest three has about a two weeks to go but with this high wind it might also be empty soon. The bird have difficulty staying in the nest when they stretch their wings into a 30 mph easterly blow. If these nests and chicks are on your must-see list you had better hurryup.
And now, yet another nest is under construction for the GBs making 4 this year. The new nest is being built in the high platform North East of the walk in the non-accesible area. The joint is jumping. anhingas are turning from white to mottled colored. A mother mottled duck was seen with 8 chicks in tow.
A common egret was spotted flying around carrying many twigs but no certain site for nest building was spotted. The green-back herons have a nest now about the same place as last year (for you veterens) but this time on the east side of the walk way and out over the water in a pond apple.
Warblers, etc., are very much below last years numbers and the "radar-reference" seems to indicate that the migration flow is west of us so things don't look that good.
considering that Great Blues have nest successfully for several years now at Wakodahatchee it appears that this might be a "hot spot" to equal or rival the famed "Venice Rookery". Hurrah, for the east coast!
