The bobcat has returned (maybe never left?) Hoechoka Hammock. This morning on an early patrol I was attracted to mottled ducks that patrolled warily offshore in the flood control canal and circling ibis that started to land then broke away and circled again. Deep tracks in the footpath had revealed that some large creature had run down the path and a scuff area indicated a tussle of some sort in the early morning. We do have ferel cats in the area and I didn't get overly concerned at first. Than a commotion in the cabbage palms detritus to my side drew my attention and out ran a muscovy duck very bloody and dragging a wing. Behind it and totally occupied with catching the cat was a bobcat. The cat pratically ran into my leg before it broke away to the wooded side and took up the chase ten feet away. By than the duck had made the safety of the canal and laboriously made it to the other side. The bobcat watched. Then turned and looked at me and walked back into the woods. What a glorious morning for downtown Parkland!

My coming along the trail probably saved the duck. Now there is some ambivalence.
