Today, I spent the morning birding in the Picayune Strand State Forest here in Collier County trying to add some new species to my Collier County Big Year list. I added several species to the list, those being Red-headed Woodpecker, Wood Duck (uncommon in Collier County these days), Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Cardinal(!) & Carolina Wren(!). Some of these birds are not on the "official" Picayune Strand State Forest bird checklist. Thanks to Joe Bozzo from the FFWC for keeping me from getting lost in that morass of dead end forest roads!
