The Kendall Christmas Bird Count was held on December 26th. The weather was cool and VERY breezy, but those who participated had a fun day out and found some great birding!

This year, we tallied 126 species, plus 9 exotics, and an additional 4 species were added during Count Week. We added four more birds to our cumulative species list-- Redhead, Bell's Vireo, Worm-eating Warbler, and Egyptian Goose (exotic).

Overall, we had 14 species of warbler, 11 shorebirds, and 12 species of hawks. We also had 16 species of waterfowl, plus 3 additional exotics.

Inexplicably, we did very poorly on woodpeckers, with only Red-bellied on Count day, and Downy during Count Week. We also did not fare well with amazona parrots, as the South Miami areas continue to be fragmented and transitory (although, thanks to our Feeder Watchers, we did very well with Blue-and-yellow Macaws)

The Kendall Count is always run the weekend nearest Christmas, and this year was on a Sunday as well. The Count could not function without very able and enthusiastic birders, and you all have my gratitude and thanks:
