Hello all. I had excellent views of the apparent Kelp Gull eating a catfish on a tidal flat this morning at Anclote Gulf Park (Pasco County); on my way home, I had multiple TAS members call and ask me about carpooling to see the bird, or about viewing logistics
I would highly recommend to anyone interested in seeing this wonderful bird, to do so tomorrow morning. A weather front is moving into the Pasco County area on Wed. night/Thur. morning (see related message below), which might change viewing opportunities.
Good luck to all!
John
" I just want to send out a general notice that after tomorrow the weather does not look good for seeing the probable Kelp Gull. Starting late Wednesday night and going into Thursday morning a front will be moving thru with rain. After the rain, winds are going to be very gusty and coming out of the NW. The winds are predicted to be from 15-25 MPH with higher gusts near the coast. My understanding is the location were this gull is seen is facing the NW. The winds will making any low tide not happening with the water pushing in from the gulf. The NOAA forecast has the winds staying up until mid day Saturday. The question would be if the gull will stay around during the high winds or move somewhere else. Erik Haney, Saint Petersburg"
