I also recently put a nest box up hoping Red Bellied Woodpeckers would set up house. Had a few check the box out and make lots of pecking noise but none have decided to move in. Fortunately,though,Starlings aren't very common in my neighborhodd. But,just in case,I hid the nestbox in an oak tree. Will let you know if it is successful.
