Spring is almost here, and the recent warbler sightings in my yard have prooved it. Yesterday, Black-throated Blue and Cape May Warblers stayed mixed in with Prairie, Palm, Northern Parula, Black-and-white, American Redstart, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers It won't be long until the Blue-grays leave, however. Other winter residents seen the last three days are Broad-winged Hawk, Gray Catbird, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Blue-headed Vireo. At Miami Beach, I found Sandwich Tern, Royal Tern, Sanderling, and a Gannet.

More birds are singing, especially doves and Northern Mockingbirds. Blue Jays have become silent. Both grackle species have split away from their winter flocks and taken to the neighborhoods to pair up and build nests. I also found a Downy Woodpecker today, and about 60 aratinga type parakeets flying in the direction of North Miami. 23 Chestnut-fronted Macaws were in my neighborhood yesterday.
