This morning, I birded in the East Everglades, accessed from SW 168 Street. I first visited the C-357 sparrow fields, but except for a single White-tailed Kite (see photo) and a Grasshopper Sparrow, it was rather slow. When I visited the Chekika area later in the morning, I found a few interesting birds, including an American Bittern (near the gate at the north end of SW 232 Avenue), a King Rail (at the gate just north of the Chekika entrance) and a Least Flycatcher (giving its "whit" call along the southern section of the Chekika boardwalk).
