In this case, it's a world birding thing.

I often change these things before posting, but not this time. The AOU's SACC split the Moorhen and Gallinule last March. Since I've seen Moorhen in the UK, I use separate names for them on my own lists.

The Australians consider their Barn Owl to be a separate species "Eastern Barn-Owl", which I have also seen. In that case, "Barn Owl" is not a good name for ours. The AOU checklist (the actual book) gives "Common Barn-Owl" as an alternate name for ours, so I use it.

As for "Myrtle Warbler", I expect them to eventually be split, even if the current proposal (2010-A-4) fails. So I keep them separate from the Audubon's (except when doing ABA area totals), as I do for other apparent species such as Lilian's and Eastern Meadowlarks, California and Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay's, etc.
