PB: Loxahatchee NWR weekly Saturday birdwalk

Both birders and birds were up this week -- probably because of the holidays. :) Snowies have been scarce (with none today) but all the other standard waders were present as were both Green-winged and Blue-winged Teals. Raptors were well represented as well: Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk, Northern Harrier, Snail Kite, Cooper's Hawk, and Merlin.

Today's highlight, though, had to be the pair of Great Horned Owls that had been heard in past weeks but were in full view today. I don't understand why they can't give us photographers a break and perch without the strong back-lighting that they chose today. Excuse the attached poor quality photo but I just wanted to document their return for yet another year. (We believe this is same pair that has been present for the last few years.)

P.S. While the Refuge will be open, there are no organized walks scheduled for the next two Saturdays, December 25th and January 1st.
