It was a lovely day for a CBC, and I was glad to once again help with the count inside Biscayne National Park.

The day started off with an outstanding find by Brian Rapoza. Near the headquarters building he saw a Mangrove Cuckoo fly across the channel and land in the mangroves just a little bit above eye level. The bird just sat there 20 feet away, vocalizing slightly...tremendous!

My group counted the jetty, Elliott offshore beaches, and Boca Chita. We tallied typical gulls, terns, shorebirds, and waders. Highlights for me were the 6 Red-breasted Merganser and single Magnificent Frigatebird.

Back on land I birded the parking lot and found a busy tree that included:

Ruby-crowned Kinglet
House Wren
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Prairie Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Palm Warbler
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Great Crested Flycatcher

Good luck with the other CBC's!
